Flex Sigmoidoscopy Prep Instructions
- If your procedure is scheduled at Mohawk Surgery Center, located at 201 Mohawk Rd, Suite 200, Clermont FL 34711. They will contact you the day before your procedure to give you an arrival time. If you have not heard from them by 3 pm the day before your procedure, please contact them at 352-758-2540.
- If your procedure is scheduled at South Lake Endoscopy Center, located at 2040 Oakley Seaver Dr. Clermont, FL 34711. They will contact you the day before your procedure to give you an arrival time. If you have not heard from them by 3 pm the day before your procedure, please contact them at 352-536-8895.
- If your procedure is scheduled at South Lake Hospital, you will need to call the hospital after 5 pm the day before your procedure for your arrival time. 352-241-7159.
- If your procedure is scheduled at Heart of Florida Hospital, located at 40100 Highway 27, Davenport, 33837. They will contact you the day before your procedure to give you an arrival time. If you have not heard from them by 3 pm the day before your procedure, please contact them at 863-419-4067.
- If your procedure is scheduled at Davenport Ambulatory Surgery Center, located at 107 Park Place Blvd, Davenport FL 33837. They will contact you the day before your procedure to give you an arrival time. If you have not heard from them by 3 pm the day before your procedure, please contact them at 863-419-2812
- If your procedure is scheduled at Advent Health Outpatient Surgery Center (Winter Garden), located at 2000 Fowler Grove Blvd. Winter Garden, FL, 34787 they will call you to give you an arrival time. If you have not heard from them by 3 p.m. the day before your procedure, please call them at 407 614-0500 Ext 115-1003.
- If your procedure is scheduled at Orlando Health Horizon West Hospital, located at 17000 Porter Rd Winter Garden Fl 3478; they will call you to give to an arrival time. If you have not heard from them by 3 p.m. the day before your procedure, please call them at 407-407-1995 or 407-407-2000.
- ***There will be a $100.00 charge each time a procedure is cancelled or rescheduled within 2 weeks of your scheduled date. If you choose to cancel, no show or reschedule within 2 weeks of your scheduled date, this fee must be paid to South Lake Gastroenterology prior to your procedure being rescheduled.***
- ***IF TAKING OZEMPIC (Semaglutide) or MOUNJARO (Tizepatide) injection. Or ANY other GLP-1 type medications? You need to stop ONE WEEK (7 full days) prior to your scheduled procedure to prevent cancellation. Ozempic/Mounjaro GLP-1 medications slow the emptying of your stomach contents, putting you at greater risk of aspiration during your procedure.
- ***To inquire about your financial responsibility, please contact the facility in which your procedure is scheduled***
- If you are taking blood thinners, you must hold them before the colonoscopy. You must obtain a written procedure clearance from your prescribing doctor. Aspirin is stopped 5 days before the colonoscopy.
Purchase from the pharmacy:
- 1 Magnesium Citrate 8 oz bottle
- 4 Ducolax Laxative Tablets
- 2 Fleet Enemas
Preparation:
The day before the procedure:
- Clear liquid diet all day. NO solid food.
- NO red or purple liquids or foods.
- At noon, drink 8oz of Magnesium Citrate.
- Wait two hours then take 4 Ducolax Laxative Tablets.
- Nothing to eat or drink after midnight.
The day of the procedure:
- Take one Fleet enema 2 hours prior to the procedure.
- If stools are not clear or yellow in color, within 10 minutes of enema, take 1 more enema.
You may take your medications:
- The day before your Procedure (Except Blood Thinners).
- Do not take any medications until after your procedure is complete on your
scheduled procedure date.
Risks of the procedure:
- Bleeding
- Infection
- Perforation of the bowel lining requiring surgical intervention
It is very rare that these complications occur but in the event that you have any of the following you should go directly to the Emergency Room:
- Heavy rectal bleeding
- Sharp/severe abdominal pain
- Severe nausea or vomiting
- Fever
After you take the prep, your stool should be yellow in color. If you are not clean, call the office. You may need to reschedule.
You must have an adult over the age of 18 years old stay with you and drive you home after the procedure.
The actual procedure takes about 20-30 minutes but set aside 3-4 hours for you and your driver.
***Absolutely all piercings must be removed prior to procedure***
Attention Diabetics:
- Please notify the staff that you are diabetic.
- You will be scheduled early in the morning.
- If you take pills for your blood sugar, take them as usual on the prep day and do not take them on the day of the procedure until after the procedure is done.
- If you take insulin, take only ½ of your normal dose on the morning of your procedure.
- Please monitor your blood sugar closely on the prep day and take it in the morning before you leave home for the procedure.
- Please notify the nurse of the results when you arrive for the procedure.

You have been scheduled for a procedure. Please be advised that you will incur at least three different bills for your procedure. They will be as follows:
- Facility Charge (The place where your procedure is scheduled)
- South Lake Hospital (352-394-4071)
- South Lake Surgery Center (352-536-1703)
- Leesburg Regional Medical Center (352-323-5879)
- Physician Charge for the procedure itself.
- Anesthesia Charge (The facility can provide information about costs).
- Lab Charge (for testing or if biopsies are taken).
South Lake Gastroenterology makes every effort to call your insurance company to verify coverage for your procedure. This is no guarantee of payment from your insurance company. If you require an authorization for procedures, please notify our billing department immediately. It is the patient’s responsibility to know the coverage of the policy. If you have questions regarding the coverage of your procedure, you will need to contact your insurance company directly.
South Lake Gastroenterology can only estimate charges incurred for our Physicians’ services. If you have questions regarding any of the above mentioned charges, please contact the facility at which you are scheduled.
Self Pay Patient: The doctor’s fee for Endoscopy is $400 and Colonoscopy is $400. This amount must be paid prior to scheduling your procedure appointment.
HMO Patient: Please make every effort to make sure authorization is obtained for your procedure. You can confirm this by calling our Billing Department one week prior to your procedure.
Medicare Patient: No authorization is required.
Under 50 years of age and scheduled for colonoscopy, please call your insurance company to verify if the procedure will be covered.
